Refleksi Homeschool: Pergi ke Sekolah
Bagi kita, orangtua, sekolah berukuran raksasa dengan ribuan siswa, fasilitas lengkap, sistem keamanan super canggih, 300an guru yang berasal lebih dari 60 negara dan sederet kehebatan lainnya adalah sebuah jaminan. Tetapi bagi anak itu bisa jadi hanya berarti air minum yang dingin dan teman-teman bermain yang mengasyikkan. Kenapa? because there's nothing I cannot study at home.
Hari ini adalah hari pertama dalam hidupnya Da Hye menginjakkan kaki di sekolah super besar dengan ribuan siswa untuk mengikuti program summer school di Jakarta International School. Setelah hari pertama berlalu inilah cuplikan percakapan kami.
Mom: "How was it?"
Da Hye: "Great"
Mom: "What was great?"
Da Hye: "I drank from the water fountains, they were everywhere in the school and best of all they were refregirated"
Mom: "I don't talk about the facility. I mean how was the class?"
Da Hye: "Oh ...that! Well, it was kind of okay."
Mom: "What do you mean okay?"
Da Hye:" We learnt stuffs I already know."
Mom: "What stuffs?"
Da Hye: "You know, we disscussed about Larry and Sergei...you know them right? the google guys...Then we talked about the life of Bill Gates, Mitall and of course your guru Buffett."
Mom: "Correction! Buffett is not my guru, why do you think he's my guru? is that all? You learnt nothing else"
Da Hye: "Oh! We set up a business plan, guess what? my friends picked me as the CEO."
Mom: (GR sekali karena dalam kelas yang diikuti Da Hye kebanyakan anak berusia 10/11 tahun) "Really? That means they think that you have the quality of becoming a CEO. They think you are good."
Da Hye: "Oh ...mom, that's not quite like it. They are just bored of school. They go to school everyday and they still have to go to school in summer holiday too. They are just tired of everything so they picked me instead because they could not think anymore."
Mom: "Oh well...I see. So how do you think about a school life?"
Da Hye: "It's not bad, I like recess, I love my friends but I think there's nothing I cannot study at home. I don't mind going there every once in a while but going there everyday is a bad idea. Everyone told me 'school is suck' and I said 'come on...you guys are going to the most expensive school in this country' and they told me 'so what? you are lucky to stay at home'...geee...I am not that at home right mom...I am kind of everywhere."

Ucapan yang cukup menohok bagi para ortu yang justru merasa bangga bisa memasukkan anak-anaknya ke sekolah super mahal kali, ya?
Thank you bu Ines, sebelumnya saya juga berpikiran begitu, jadi malu kite! It Changed mind set about it now.
